I had tried to keep occupied by doing the best cleaning job I could and the jeep was finally looking spotless inside and out, when another car pulled up behind. Out stepped Jade with another muscular black man who I assumed must be Craig.

The next few weeks were a blur. Jamie and Hannah spent most of the time either in the bedroom having passionate sex or out with Craig and Jane. Things continued that way until the fateful day when everything changed.

I came in from work to the four of them sitting drinking in the living room. They seemed like they were planning something as there was plenty of whispering and giggling going on while I was in the kitchen getting something to eat.
Jade walked in.
‘I think we can have some fun Jay.’ She said grinning. ‘I know you’re desperate to get one over on Jamie and win some pride back in front of Hannah. I can help you do it.’
‘Why would you help me?’ I asked ‘you brought him into our lives’
‘Jamie is getting too big for his boots and it’s winding Craig up.’ She said ‘we only set them up as Craig felt sorry for him and I wanted Hannah to finally get some decent sex…. No offence.’
‘Ok’ I said cautiously. ‘What did you have in mind?’
‘A race’ she said excitedly ‘I remember Hannah telling me you’re a really good runner…. And I know a secret…, Jamie is injured! He hurt his knee last week and cannot run quickly as it hurts. He told Craig in rugby training.’
‘You think I should challenge him to a race?’
‘Yes! Challenge him in front of us and I’ll wind him up so that he’ll have a go so as to not lose face in front of Hannah. He doesn’t know how good you are!’
My heart lifted. I was a very good runner. I have a slight build but can run like a greyhound.
‘OK’ I said ‘let’s do it’
Jade smirked ‘brilliant!’ She said ‘come into the living room in a minute and I’ll set it up.’ She winked at me and walked into the living room after getting a bottle of wine from the fridge.
The laughter and excited whispering continued until I walked in the living room. Suddenly it stopped and there was an awkward silence which Jade filled.
‘Hey Jamie’ she said over dramatically. ‘Did you know that Jay here is a really good athlete. I reckon he’d beat you in a race’
‘Like hell he would’ Jamie said back ‘look at him. He’s not really a man at all.’ He laughed but Jade stood up.
‘You want a bet on that Jamie boy?’ She pointed at me. ‘I bet you he would beat you in a race right now in the street outside. What do you think Hannah?’
I Hannah looked embarrassed ‘well I know Jamie is fast… I’m not sure.’
Jamie looked insulted. He turned to Hannah ‘You think he would beat me?’
Hannah looked down ‘I’m not sure’
‘This is crazy!’ Jamie shouted ‘what do you think bitch not?’ He looked at me.
‘I bet I could beat you.’ I couldn’t believe I’d said it. I thought he might beat me up.
‘Oh you bet do you? How much then?’
I looked at Hannah who was smiling at me in what assumed was pride. My heart lifted.
‘If I win, you move out… tonight.’
‘What if I win?’ He said ‘I’ve already taken your girl. What can you offer?’
I looked at Hannah and Jade. They were smiling. I thought they were on my side.
‘What about the house?’ Jade said
‘What? No, no’ I said ‘my mum left me this house. It’s my only real asset.’
Jamie laughed and looked at Hannah ‘see I knew he was nothing. He’s too scared to bet.’
Jade winked at me and whispered in my ear ‘remember what I told you. He’s injured. You could have him out of the house and be back in bed with Hannah tonight!’
My pride got the better of me ‘OK’ I said ‘if you win you can have the house, but WHEN I win. I want you out tonight’
‘Yeah!’ Shouted Jade laughing ‘that’s it Jay… see Hannah’ she nodded at me and Hannah smiled nervously. I should have known something wasn’t right.
‘You’re on’ Jamie said he took my hand in his huge palm ‘a bets a bet… I’ll be out tonight if you win’
‘Deal!’ I said shaking his hand. We all walked into the street and Jade set the rules. We were running a between two lampposts uphill, a distance of around 200m. Jade was at the start and Hannah at the fish to see who won.
As we stood ready to race I began to get nervous. Jamie was loosening up and looked far from injured. He was running on the spot with the agility of a cat. I looked at Jade who was smiling devilishly.
We stood on our marks.
‘Go!’ Jade screamed suddenly and Jamie shot off. He seemed ready for it but it caught me off guard and he got a good lead. I was trying as hard as I could but I couldn’t keep up with his speed. He was a serious athlete and it was clear that there was no injury.
As we approached the last 50m I went for one last push…. And that’s when I heard it.
‘Yes! Come on Jamie… he’s not even close!’ Hannah was screaming desperately from the finish line… clearly showing who she wanted to win.
She was right it WASNT close. Jamie beat me by a clear 10m at least. I found out later that was a former 200m sprinter for team GB… I never had a chance.
Hannah and Jamie embraced each other cheering… Jade and Craig ran up to join them and they all cheers together. It was clear that this was preplanned.
‘Here we go’ Jade said as she pulled a document from her handbag. ‘This is for you to sign Jay’ she said with a huge smirk on her face.
I looked through the document still out of breath. It was a contract, signing over the deeds to my house to Jamie & Hannah in 50% shares each…. The ‘witness’ signature was already added… it was Jades.
She held out a pen ‘a bets a bet you said?’
I signed the paper on the tabbed pages and handed it to Jade who gave it to Hannah. Jamie gave Hannah a passionate kiss.
‘We finally own our own house’ she said. Gazing into his eyes.
They all started walking back down toward the house. As we reached the front gate Jade stopped me. ‘Err where do you think you’re going?’
I stopped, still in shock, trying to comprehend what had happened. ‘I’ve got nowhere to go’ I said pathetically.
Jade laughed evilly. ‘What do you think Han? Can he stay here as your tenant’
‘It’s up to Jamie’ Hannah said. You hung his muscular arm. ‘He won the house. What do you think Jamie.’
He looked me up and down and laughed ‘he can stay for a while I suppose… He’ll be paying a high rent and will be expected to do all of the housework… how do you feel about that Boy?’
They all stared at me.
‘Thank you thats fine with me.’
‘Fine with you?’ Jamie said ‘the cheek of it. You should be on your knees begging me to let you stay.’
‘Sorry’ I said ‘please let me stay’
‘On your knees’ he said firmly.
They all stared expectantly as I lowered myself to my knees in the street. Jade stood with her hands on her hips
‘make him kiss your feet Jamie’ she said wickedly ‘he wanted YOU out in the street remember?’
‘Good idea’ he said chuckling. He pointed to his shoes ‘kiss’ he ordered
I lowered my head and kissed his shoes.
‘Ewww’ Hannah said. I felt terrible.
‘Come on’ Jamie said ‘let’s go inside. Life’s gonna be fun from now on. He put his arm around Hannah and we all walked back into the house….. me following last… Hank g my head in shame.
