When Claire Wilson turned into her driveway she was instantly annoyed. Once again her husband had chosen to park his truck under the carport in the spot closest to the house. Certainly not a big thing, but just one of those little things that he did that made her life a little more difficult. She smiled to herself as she considered how his life was about to be changing, real soon.

Exiting her car, Claire grabbed her purse and office bag in one hand while balancing a “take & bake” pizza in the other. Swinging a well curved hip, she shut the door of her car and walked around the offending truck. Another round of juggling and gymnastics got her through the door and into the house.

As she slid the pizza on the island that defined the kitchen from the living room, Claire glanced over her shoulder to find her husband in his recliner, beer in his hand and his head buried in his laptop.

“Jake,” she called from the kitchen as she turned on the oven, “I stopped at that new pizza place on Hawthorn drive and got us a pizza. Extra meat, extra cheese, just how you like it.”

“Great, Hun,” he mumbled, completely absorbed in his computer.

Totally clueless, Claire thought to herself as she walked past him on her way to their bedroom. Removing her navy blue jacket, white button up blouse, and knee length skirt, she hung up the boring boardroom attire before tossing her bra in the laundry basket in the corner. From her dresser she donned a threadbare pair of grey sweat pants that had either shrunk or she had began to grow out of. From Jake’s dresser she pulled out one of his fishing T shirts with the sleeves cut out deep into the shoulders and put it on. Standing in front of the mirror that hung on the back of their bedroom door, Claire studied herself for a moment as she tied up her shoulder length black hair into a ponytail. Amusement crinkled at the corners of her eyes as she thought about how shocked her co-workers would be if they knew how casual she dressed at home.

Back in the kitchen Claire slid the pizza in the oven and set the timer. From the cupboard she took down plates and pulled silverware from the utility drawer and set the table. Removing her purse and office bag from the island counter, she placed them on the chair next to where she intended to sit.

From the living room she heard Jake finally getting up from his chair. At the fridge, Claire picked out some ranch dressing, parmesan cheese and some hot sauce and met Jake at the table. Quickly wrapping his arms around her from the rear, Jake ground himself against her full round butt and salaciously growled in her ear.

“C’mon Baby, I’m starving here, how about a little appetizer first?”

Claire reached behind her and cupped him in her hand. “I’m starving too,” she chuckled over her shoulder, “but I want pizza first and I’ll have some of that for dessert.”

Stepping around Jake, Claire opened the rear patio door and stepped out on the deck as her husband followed. She began reaching her fingers into the overflowing flower pots checking for dampness.

“I watered everything when I got home,” Jake remarked with just a hint of frustration showing, “C’mon Claire, give me a little credit here.”

“I’m sorry Honey, but you know how I am. Work demands that I dot every i and cross every t, so it’s ingrained in me to double check everything.”

Slipping an arm around Jake, she studied the backyard with all the landscape work Jake had done. “You know, Honey”, she began, the soft tone of reflection filtering through her voice, “when I inherited this property from my grandmother it was a jungle back here, and look what you’ve done with it. It’s absolutely beautiful. Have you ever considered doing something in the horticulture field as a career?”

“Oh hell no,” came his somewhat gruff reply, “that would ruin it as a hobby. What I’ve done on this property’s was a way for me to relax and decompress. I could come out here and shut my mind off and think about nothing except what I was doing.”

Claire, never one to let an opening go to waste elbowed Jake. “So, when ya gonna turn that mind back on?”

She was instantly rewarded. “Smart ass,” came his swift reply as his hand quickly grabbed her butt cheek, “I got half a mind to bend you over right here and give that ass a good poke’n.”

“Oh no,” Claire replied with a soft chuckle, deciding not to follow up on his half a mind opening, “you can poke me after supper, or all weekend if you feel you need to, but right now I’m going to eat.”

Seconds later, as if their conversation was the waiting cue, the timer on the oven began to buzz. “Ok, finally, let’s eat,” Claire said as she quickly turned to go inside. From the oven she took the pizza and carefully slid it onto her large wooden cutting board. “I’m not letting this thing rest,” she said to no one in particular, “I’m cutting it up so we can eat right now.”

With the pizza cut and on the table, Claire and Jake sat down as one. Claire quickly slid a couple of thick wedges on Jakes plate before taking two for herself. Watching her husband begin to cut his pizza as she cut hers, she playfully remarked, “Ya know what next Thursday is?”

Jake stabbed a chunk of pizza and carefully blew on it before easing it into his mouth. Chewing slowly, he quickly went through all the important dates he needed to remember. “Sure, it’s our anniversary, you didn’t think I’d forget that, did you?”

“Oh, I don’t know, you nearly did a couple of years ago,” she replied, a hint of accusation and amusement in her voice. Taking her first bite of pizza she chewed thoughtfully. “Jake, do you think we have a good marriage,” she queried?

Jake quickly took another bite before responding, the feeling that this conversation was more than idle chit chat was prominent in his mind. “Yeah,” he responded as he swallowed and quickly began to cut another corner of his pizza., “better than most. I mean, we get along and seldom have disagreements, and we’re doing good.”

“Why are we doing good, Jake,” Claire asked pointedly?

Jake finished chewing and rested his forearms on the table, his fork hovering over his pizza. “You’re not bringing that up again, are you?”

“Jake, don’t you dare try an insinuate that I’m badgering you,” Claire replied, and edge slipping into her tone. “Every year, just before our anniversary, I remind you of your promise. That’s not nagging. The fact is you’re doing well because I’m doing well. You live a cushy life because I provide it. Well, last year I told myself this is the last time I bring it up. I decided if you haven’t made a change by next year, I’m done.” Claire paused, letting that sink in before softening her tone, “Jake, I refuse to continue to give myself to a man who gives so little back.”

“Geez Claire, what’s the big deal,” Jake began to reply before being cut off.

“The big deal is that you promised when we got married that you’d go back to college and get a degree and a career,” Claire pointed out as she took another bite of pizza. Waving her fork at him as she hurriedly chewed, she went on. “You could have gone to a trade school and learned a trade, or even just tried to find a job that had room for advancement instead of that dead end warehouse job. Jake, do you realize I make three times what you do”

“Well, I can still do that,” he began to whine as panic started to set in, “this is no reason to be talking about quitting.”

“I’m glad you are thinking like that Jake, because I decided to give you a choice. Personally, I don’t want a divorce, you’re a good man Jake, but like I said, I refuse to continue to give myself to a man who refuses to give something back.”

Wiping her fingers on her napkin, Claire quickly dug in her office bag on the chair next to her. She pulled two official manilla envelopes out of her bag and looked at them closely. Leaning across the table, she placed them side by side next to Jake. “You have two choices Honey.”

Jake took another bite and chewed slowly as he read the names “Burkwald, Haney, and Lamar, attorneys at law”. They were well know divorce attorneys who had a billboard that he passed every day on his way to work. Suddenly his appetite was slipping away as a brick seemed to be settling in his stomach. “Can we just talk about this a minute Claire,” he pleaded, “it doesn’t have to be like this.”

Claire pulled another slice of pizza onto her plate and attacked it with her fork. “Next Thursday it will be seven years that you’ve had to do something about that promise, but you did nothing. Yes Jake, it has to be this way. So, lets go over your options so you can make an informed decision.”

Slowly, in a voice that was deceptively calm, she began by taping on the envelope that was closest to him. “Behind door number one is a simple divorce, so let’s take a look at how that shakes out for you. As you know, the house was an inheritance from my grandmother before we were married, so that is not marital property. That decked out truck you drive, I bought it and it’s in my name, as is that fancy fishing boat you have. You do have your country club membership that you paid for but that golf cart you ride around in, I paid for. Now as I see it, to have any money left at the end of the month, you’ll probably need to sweet talk your parents into letting you move back in with them. That salary you make just isn’t going to cover much more than a one bedroom dump and you still need to come up with a dependable vehicle to drive.”

Jake took another bite of pizza that he suddenly didn’t want. He chewed slowly and without pleasure as he considered what she said. Things had gone so smoothly through their marriage and since she seldom brought up the agreement he had made, he was sure it was merely rhetoric to keep him on his toes. In his wildest dreams he never considered it would come to this and he felt she couldn’t go unchallenged. “Well, since you make so much more than me,” he stated matter of factly, “what makes you so sure you wouldn’t have to pay me alimony?”

“Well, if I did,” she replied in an amused tone, “it wouldn’t be much or for very long. This is a no-fault divorce state Jake, and if you could show that you put a substantial part of your income into this marriage then you’d have half a chance at getting alimony. But what you forget Honey, in HR it’s all about clear and concise record keeping. I’ve kept records of everything since before we were married. I can account for every insurance payment, grocery and utility bill, let’s just say every output of monies needed to keep this ship afloat. And another thing you maybe haven’t considered,” she continued as she raised an eyebrow at him, “when a person starts making money, it’s normal to search out ways to shelter that money, or even make it look like it’s not even there. On paper we might not be doing as well as you think.”

Jake set his fork down as he watched his wife continue eating, looking at her but unable to hold her gaze. He felt trapped and outgunned, knowing his wife was thorough in things she did. Nothing was done half way and he was sure she had researched and planned for every eventuality, whatever it might be.

Jake watched Claire continue to eat as if she hadn’t a care in the world while his stomach roiled in uncertainty. After several minuted of crushing silence that was only broken by the hum of the refrigerator and the clink of Claire’s silverware, he finally spoke in a small voice. “What’s my other option?”

“Redemption Honey, redemption,” came her unhurried reply. She wiped her fingers again and tapped the second envelope, making a dry crackling sound that grated on his nerves. “This is a post nup agreement.”

“Why would you expect to get that,” Jake asked, sounding dumbfounded?

“Honey,” Claire began softly, “plan B allows you to keep your dignity. You can have your truck, boat, golf and fishing time with your buddies, and you don’t have to explain a divorce and why you can no longer hang with them. You still will have to either get a degree or go learn a trade, I’d even settle for a good job that gives you the chance to earn your way to something better. Most of your college courses can be done online and that might be your best option, but whatever you do, I’ll support you.”

“However,” Claire quickly went on, “there is one stipulation that I will require.”

“What’s that,” Jake asked with sudden interest?

Claire leaned forward over her plate, resting her generous tits on the table as she studied his inquisitive face. “You will need to focus on this without unnecessary distractions. You will also need to give something up until you can show me that you are serious and not just trying to placate me.”

“Sure,” Jake responded positively, “just name it.”

Claire smiled at her husband’s innocence, holding his gaze for a moment. Glancing down at the second envelope she went on. “That envelope is a post nuptial that says you are agreeing to opening my end of our marriage. Basically it takes away the infidelity clause in case you decide that plan B is too hard and you want to exercise plan A. You see, infidelity can be a deciding factor in how the marriage is dissolved and I’m not taking any chances.” Claire abruptly turned and checked the time on the microwave before continuing. “It’s about six pm on Friday and you have until eight pm on Sunday to make a decision and sign the choice you want. If you think you can stall, I’ll make door number one the choice for you. Anyway, after eight pm on Sunday there will be no sex for you until I see a convincing progression.”

Claire studied her husband’s pained features for a moment. “Hey, you gonna finish that slice of pizza,” she asked as she reached over and stabbed it with her fork. Picking up his half eaten slice, she was about to put it in her mouth when she quickly set it back on her plate. “I almost forgot,” she quickly added as she wiped her fingers again. Reaching in her purse, Claire pulled out a stainless steel chastity cage and set it in the upright position on top of the second envelope. “As I said, there will be no sex for you after Sunday night until I think you’ve earned it.”
