A few years ago, I was offered an internal transfer to a new country. I accepted and moved with my wife. We are in our early 30s. I adjusted quickly but my wife couldnt get a job for almost 1.5 years and was getting depressed. We decided that if she didnt get a job in another 6 months, we would go back home. With about 4 months to go, my wife got an interview. She wasnt too thrilled with the role but getting a job was important. When she had the final one on one interview, he told her that he likes to meet his new job prospects along with the team for dinner to see “cultural fit”. I asked her why that was a problem? She told me that she thinks that her hiring manager would make a move on her after dinner. I told her that I finally get it and she was correct in not going for the job. We slept on it but the next day, when I came back home, I found my wife wasnt in a good mood. She told me that she has been thinking about it the whole day and she really didnt want to go through the hiring process again at another company and going back home was also tough. We had a lot of discussions, and while I wasnt comfortable, I told her that she can go for dinner and then do what is necessary, if required.
The restaurant they went to closes at midnight. She came home at 4 am. I didnt ask anything. She got the job and has been there for three years. We agreed not to discuss anything but the signs are always there. She goes for company dinners, but when she wears something a bit tight or revealing, I know she is going to come home late. She goes on company trips. When she visits the salon before the trip and I find her body smooth, I know what will happen on that trip. Every year before salary review, I see her clean shaven.
