My girlfriend’s out of town for the night and tomorrow. She’s at a joint bachelor and bachelorette party twelve of her girlfriends and twelve of the groom’s friends, all staying together at this massive Airbnb right on the lake.
We talked before she left. I made a light comment, half-joking but not really, about her maybe getting a little too drunk and having one of those nights. She laughed, told me not to worry. Then she added something I haven’t been able to stop thinking about which was that most of the groomsmen are single. She knows what that does to me. That thought. The idea of her being surrounded by a bunch of drunk, loud, confident guys, with her girlfriends hyping her up and no boyfriend around to keep her grounded.
She sent me a picture earlier. Out on the boat. Her bikini top was barely hanging on. She had a drink in her hand and this loose, happy, look on her face. A few guys were in the background, all shirtless, all looking like they’d be more than ready if the mood shifted. She just captioned it, “Starting early ?.”
I haven’t heard from her since.
And I’m sitting here, wondering. Hoping, even. Has the night already taken a turn? Is she feeling that buzz, letting loose a little more than usual? Is some guy noticing the way she dances when she’s drunk, the way she bites her lip when she’s feeling bold? Are they talking close? Has she slipped off somewhere quieter?
I have no idea what she’ll do. Maybe nothing. Maybe everything. But tonight she has complete freedom. No limits. And the truth is, some part of me wants her to take full advantage of that. To forget herself a little. To let the moment pull her wherever it wants.
I’ll post again if she texts me later. If she does.
