My wife works with an amazing guy. She’s known him as long as she’s known me. They both started their careers at the same place and have followed each others to different firms. He’s handsome, charming, kind. Thankfully he’s gay, so I don’t have to worry about them running away together, because I’d stand no chance ?.
He and his husband are two of our closest friends. We were in each other’s weddings and usually go on a trip together once per year. They’re some of our favorite people on earth and we admire them both a lot.

My wife said they wanted to have us over for dinner. I could tell the wanted to bring something up but she wouldn’t say. I found out later she had already discussed it with him at work and they just wanted to rerun the conversation with the partners present.
They decided they wanted to start a family. They’re pretty well off and healthy, and will make incredible parents. That kid will have every advantage, no hardship, a life of abundance and love.
My wife tiptoed into it. “You know how I always joked that I would have their babies…. Well, what if I did?”
My head kind spun and it took me a second to answer. I felt like they were all looking at me. I stammered out something like “wow, ok, yeah, of course, we’d be honored.”
They went on to explain the plan that they had already hammered out- paternity/maternity leave, insurance, etc. They wanted two kids, one from each dad. All good.
When my wife said they would use a fertility clinic, I was kind of surprised. I had mentally already made peace that they’d do this the natural way. I clumsily blurted out “or…. you could just go upstairs.”
The look they gave each other will be something I remember forever. It was a mix of love and nervousness and arousal. I think they just said “okay, that works!”
So the husband and I sat on the couch and jokingly cheered them on as they wandered upstairs. I told him to FaceTime me if he needed instructions on how sex with a woman works.?
So the husband and I sat next to each other while our partners went off to breed. We made nervous conversation, “holy shit, this is crazy, what are we doing? Is this the right thing?”
Once the moaning started ringing out, we were both VERY into it. They left the door open so we could hear everything. We left feeling such a cocktail of emotions. Nervous, but nothing bad. The first few tests have been negative, so they’re doing lunch breedings until she misses a period, and she and I are abstaining until then. There’s still a LOT of questions to answer, mainly what we tell our families when her belly grows, but we’ll deal with that when the time comes.
